Castle of the Unnamed in Vercurago

The Castello dell’Innominato in Vercurago is a suggestive fortification located about 5 kilometers from the city of Lecco, in a panoramic position overlooking Como Lake and Monte Barro. This castle, located 180 meters above the lake level, can be reached via a short path that starts from the Sanctuary of San Girolamo and passes through the chapel dedicated to the Saint. The remains of the castle include a quadrangular enclosure with a tower transformed into a chapel in 1902. Popular tradition has it that this place inspired Alessandro Manzoni to set the castle of the Unnamed, thanks to its impervious location and the breathtaking view of the surrounding area. The Castle of the Unnamed represents not only a place of historical interest, but also an ideal tourist attraction for an easy walk in all seasons, offering visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in the evocative atmosphere linked to the events of “The Betrothed”
